Miss Conroy’s last class

The founding kindergarten teacher at St. Paul on the Lake, Sharon Conroy, is retiring after 40 years at the Catholic school in the Farms. “The children have come to me at a certain point in their development,” she says, “and I’ve had the privilege to bring them up to the next point.”

Known to two generations of families as “Miss Conroy,” she issued diplomas to 22 students this week. Keeping with tradition, the children went to the microphone to tell what they want to do in the future—be it rocket scientist, rock star or religion teacher. Whatever they become, Miss Conroy helped put them on their way.
