Three Grosse Pointe South students win
U.S. service academy appointments

Grosse Pointe South High School seniors Ryan Ennis, Alex Romer and Chelsea MacGriff have each accepted an appointment to an United States service scademy.

Ryan, son of Patrick and Marsha Ennis of the Park, will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he plans to major in aerospace engineering and compete in karate. Alex, son of Rick and Renee Romer of the Park, will attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., where he will major in marine engineering and sail on the varsity dinghy and offshore sailing teams. Chelsea, daughter of Scott and Mindy MacGriff of the Farms, will attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where she will major in engineering and play on the woman's varsity soccer team.

The United States service academies have an extremely competitive application process with selection based on academics, athletics, leadership and character. Each also requires prospective candidates to obtain a congressional nomination from either their U.S. Representative or Senator. All have an average qualified candidate acceptance rate of under 10%.
