Poupard class learns lesson in love
as teacher gets proposal in school

It wasn't part of the lesson plan, but when Christy Heugh's boyfriend walked into her Poupard Elementary third-grade classroom near the end of the school day last Friday (March 11) with a bunch of flowers in one hand and a ring box in the other, of course the economics lesson came to a halt. Then Jesse Brady-Davenport fell to one knee and popped the question in front of everybody. Principal Penny Stocks played "Chapel of Love" over the PA system and made an announcement to the entire school, which erupted in cheers. Brady-Davenport, a science teacher at Ferndale Middle School, thought the classroom was the most appropriate place to stage the big event. Heugh and her new fiancé took photos before the final bell. Judging from their faces, the class thought the proposal as exciting as its recipient did.
