Richard READS, in its first year, gets
students turning nearly a million pages

Students at Richard Elementary School reaped the rewards of reading more than 979,534 pages combined in a parent-organized program called “Richard READS.” Of the school's 410 students, 265 participated and won a carnival last week at the school.

“We designed this program to encourage our kindergarten through 5th grade children to read outside of school by rewarding them with charms throughout the year and providing them with this carnival, which will include games and donated prizes. ... As a first-year program, we are thrilled at the participation rate and that our children have read almost a million pages!” said Dawn Aldighieri, parent of a 1st and 3rd grader at Richard Elementary School.

The Richard READS program had a participation rate by grade of:

  • Kindergarten: 39 students read 74,638 pages
  • 1st grade: 35 students read 58,964 pages
  • 2nd grade: 46 students read 85,540 pages
  • 3rd grade: 47 students read 160,217 pages
  • 4th grade: 74 students read 511,375 pages
  • 5th grade: 24 students read 88,800 pages
