Essay help offered to college-bound
through Neighborhood Club class

Wow Writing Workshop LLC begins offering college essay writing classes entitled “Wow Them with your College Essay” to incoming high school seniors in September in Grosse Pointe and Berkley.

Students will take home a polished college essay after attending the four-week workshop.

Essays on a college application are the equivalent to an interview with a university admissions counselor, said Susan Knoppow, one of the three founders of the company and one of the professional writers who will teach the class. The other founders/teachers are Kimberly Lifton and Marti Benedetti (who is a contributor to GrossePointeToday.com).

“These essays hold as much weight in getting into a school as the grade point average and the ACT/SAT scores,” Knoppow said. “High school seniors will benefit substantially from this interactive workshop. College-bound seniors who complete this workshop will learn how to turn everyday experiences into compelling stories that will catch the attention of admissions counselors.”

In addition to producing an application-ready essay, students will learn a step-by-step method for writing additional essays and improve their overall writing skills, which will serve them well in high school, college and beyond, she added.

The workshop, which costs $175, consists of three two-hour sessions and a 20-minute one-on-one essay review. Two four-week sessions will be held at the Neighborhood Club in Grosse Pointe and at Berkley High School through its community education program. Session one is Sept. 14 and 21 and Oct. 5 and 12 in Grosse Pointe and Sept. 15 and 22 and Oct. 6 and 13 in Berkley. The second session is Oct. 19 and 26 and Nov. 2 and 9 in Grosse Pointe and Oct. 20 and 27 and Nov. 3 and 10 in Berkley.

To register, call the Neighborhood Club at 313-885-4600 or Berkley Community Education at 248-837-8900. Students should bring a notebook, pen and a college application to the first class.
