Before the play, the work – PTO project
erects playscape at Maire Elementary

A brand-new playscape was installed at Maire Elementary School Aug. 19-21, part of a set of playground equipment purchased by the school’s PTO. Above, fourth-grade teacher Neal Gross uses an impact drill on the project. He was one of more than 70 Maire parents and teachers who volunteered over four days to install the playscape, including a 13-foot-tall climbing wall, a swing set, and several other pieces of free-standing equipment. Seventeen other parents volunteered food. The project was also helped by contributions from Bruegger’s, Einstein Bros. Bagels, the Grosse Pointe Park Hungry Howie’s Pizza, the owners of Pat O’Brien’s Tavern, Farms Fresh Market, Village Food Market and FH Martin Constructors. Photos by William Rapai.
