University Liggett School 7th-graders
achieve perfection on Latin exam

Among the honorees of this year's National Latin Exam, introductory level, were two rare perfect scores. They were achieved by seventh-grade twins Isabelle and Bennet Sakelaris of Grosse Pointe Farms, the children of Page Heenan and James Sakelaris, and grandchildren of Palmer Heenan, mayor of the Park.

In the past 20 years, only two other Liggett Middle School students earned perfect scores at the this level. This year marks the 33rd anniversary that the National Latin Exam has been administered; more than 138,000 high school, middle school, elementary, college, and home-schooled students entered the contest on 9 different levels in 14 countries. In the United States, 17,655 students took the introductory exam which has a total of 40 questions. Awards were given to students who answered 35 or more correctly. Only 4.5 percent of the students who took the exam earned perfect scores.
