With salsa made by specialists, Mexican pizza delights all

I am happy to say that I am cooking for a new family right here in Grosse Pointe and I have some new recipes to share that are just fantastic. This Mexican pizza recipe features salsa from the wonderful Honey Bee Market in Mexicantown.

The market is located at 2443 Bagley, and the next time you are down there I highly suggest that you visit the place. They make their own guacamole and salsas and they are fantastic. This recipe is definitely a hit with the kids. If you have a finicky eater or just want to create something easy and fun on a weeknight, try this out.

Mexican Pizza

10 medium flour tortillas
1 lb ground round or sirloin (whichever you prefer; I find ground round to be a bit tastier)
2 cups crunchy tortilla chips
2 cups medium salsa (I use the kind from the Honey Bee Market, however you could use any kind)
2 cups shredded Muenster cheese
1 Tablespoon canola oil
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium sauté pan using the canola oil, brown the ground beef. Add the cumin and chili powder salt and pepper. After browning, drain off fat and set aside.

On a large baking sheet or pizza pan, lay the flour tortillas, overlapping to make a round "crust." Spread a layer of the meat over the tortillas, then half the salsa and the cheese. Top with crunchy tortillas crumbled over the top, and repeat with one more layer, making sure you reserve enough cheese to cover the top of the pizza.

Bake 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Using a pizza roller, cut and serve.
