That face, those eyes, they have the power to hypnotize. Which is why the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society offers Aries, a beagle pup, for adoption by the right home.

Grosse Pointe's best friends, available
for love or (not much) money

Meet Aries, a 12-week-old female beagle pup. She is the first in a series of adoptable pets provided by the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (GPAAS) that will run as a Pet of the Week feature here on your community news and information website.

If you are not familiar with GPAAS, it has been placing pets through Saturday adoption sessions since 1997. Their aim is to make sure any adoptable animal finds a home. They don’t run a shelter. They have dozens of volunteers who foster the animals and bring them to the Saturday adoption sessions at the Neighborhood Club at 17150 Waterloo in Grosse Pointe City from noon to 3 p.m. The next adoption session will be July 24. Tthey are held every couple of weeks.

There is a fee for adopting one of their pets, but the animals come with up-to-date shots, veterinary care and are certified by the foster parent to have a good temperament and be in good health. You can contact GPAAS at (313) 884-1551 or check their website for other candidates. They have cats and kittens too. You can also find them on Facebook and tell your pet adoption success story on their blog.

I don’t know who decided to name this pup Aries, which is an astrological sign of a warrior, often illustrated by an aggressive ram. But I do know the pets they provide are excellent.

My mother-in-law, Betty Hall, has had two – Nikkie, a Pomeranian that she loved dearly and now Peanut, a miniature dachsund that resembled a fat black sausage when she got him several years ago. His previous owner, who gave Peanut up due to a terminal illness, was a fellow who couldn’t resist feeding the little fellow from the table. We men are suckers for those sincere doggy looks.

Editor's note: The adoption session time above has been corrected. Thanks to the reader who pointed it out.
