Lloyd David Antiques has been a fixture of Kercheval's commercial district in Grosse Pointe Park for 21 years.

new again in Grosse Pointe Park

Lloyd David and his wife, Patty, have been in the antiques business for 21 years. Their store, located at 15310 Kercheval in the Park, has seen businesses come and go throughout the years. David says, “The secret to staying in business through a recession is to know everyone in the neighborhood.” Evidently he does.

Born and raised in metro Detroit, David always wanted to sell antiques. The Davids have collected items through the years such as American art pottery, Pewabic pottery, antique jewelry and furniture. They expand their collection by attending estate sales, browsing online catalogs and buying pieces elsewhere.

With election season in full swing, Lloyd and Patty are rallying support for Sen. Hansen Clarke, Democratic candidate for Michigan's 13th Congressional seat, by hanging his campaign materials throughout the store. “He is well qualified to fix Michigan, and he has our vote,” said Lloyd.

In their spare time, the Davids' activities include carpentry, home repairs, or walking around the Park. “We like to walk around the neighborhood in the evenings, just enjoying life.”

In June, the Davids and other businesses along Kercheval participated in erecting an entrance sign to the neighborhood's commercial district. The sign, located on the corner of Kercheval and Lakepointe, cost the Grosse Pointe Business Association $2,100.

“It doesn’t look like it cost $2,100," said Lloyd. "But in the long run it benefits the community in so many ways.”
