Grosse Pointe Park police nab three
in string of summer home invasions

Grosse Pointe Park police have announced three arrests in a series of home invasions in that city this summer.

According to a department press release, the break came when a resident called police Tuesday night to report two men standing on her porch at 11:39 p.m. They left, but officers were able to find the pair along with another man nearby in the neighborhood, arrested them and impounded their vehicle.

All three confessed to involvement in five home invasions, and some of the stolen property was recovered. The investigation continues and additional charges are possible.

The incidents occurred in the eastern part of the Park and began in late June. They were daytime burglaries, and Lt. James Smith attributes the break in the case to their alteration of their pattern.

"They were preying on people who weren't at home during the day, ringing the doorbell and looking for one with no one home," Smith said, adding that he's grateful the resident called the police.

"Lots of times people don't want to bother us, and the guys had gone away," he said. "But that's how we caught them."

The three suspects were identified as Malcolm Connor, Demario Perry and Marcel Statin, all 20, all of Detroit. They were arraigned in the Park's municipal court and are being held in the Wayne County Jail. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 1.
