Farms council nears completion
on park-use policy revisions

A refined Pier Park guest policy moved close to approval at the Monday (Feb. 22) work session of the Farms City Council.

The policy addresses rules for park and guest pass privileges and community building and Kerby field house reservation procedures, as well as picnic, shelter and gazebo reservations.

Additions include a requirement for non-residents with temporary park passes to show identification along with their pass to enter the park.

Residents who want to rent a community building or the Kerby field house will be required to make rental reservations as well as pay for rentals in person.

“I think this is very good, I think it’s much more simplified and I think it makes it easier for all the residents to understand and to know the policies,” said Mayor Pro Tem Therese Joseph.

The details are not all worked out, but the issue of reserving separate tables in advance is a point Mayor James Farquhar and councilman Charles Davis III will want in the policy that the council votes on at its next meeting.

Council members are confident the proposal will pass with the few revisions made in the work session.

“I think that the council’s happy with it and it seems like the residents are happy with it,” Joseph said. “I think the council will approve it soon.”

The council will see a final draft of the policy and vote at the next city council meeting, March 8.
