Man found in Farms driveway ID'd;
apparent hospital walkaway dies

Grosse Pointe Farms police have identified a man found suffering from exposure and a serious head injury in a driveway on Lake Shore Road Monday afternoon.

Raymond Schroeder, 47, of St. Clair Shores reportedly walked out of St. John Hospital before finding his way to a home in the 0-100 block of Lake Shore, according to a department press release. Schroeder was wearing EKG leads on his chest, and had a puncture mark on his hand, apparently from an IV line. The investigation revealed he left the hospital around 1 a.m. Monday. He was found nearly 12 hours later with an "extremely low core temperature," bleeding from the head. Medics transported Schroeder back to St. John, where he later died.

Blood evidence suggests he looked in the window of the Lake Shore home and tried to open the door before collapsing in the driveway. The residents have been out of town since January, and a caretaker had last checked on the house a few days previous.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Farms detective bureau, 313-885-2100.
