Grosse Pointe City primary polls
move to Neighborhood Club

The ongoing Kroger construction continues to affect traffic patterns in the Village, which has led the Grosse Pointe City Council members to relocate the Aug. 3 polling place from Maire Elementary School to the Neighborhood Club, 17150 Waterloo.

Notices will be mailed to residents and the new location will also be posted on the City’s website. No extra costs to the City are involved.

While walls are going up on the new Kroger store, the alley will be closed sometime next week to avoid injuries or accidents if the new foundations collapse. There will also be approximately five weeks of two-way traffic in the alley due to safety regulations. The Grosse Pointe School District will be working closely with the project to provide customer parking.

City Council members also approved the replacement of a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria police car with over 80,000 miles with a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria. The new vehicle will cost $20,000 and an additional $5,000 to strip the old vehicle and equip the new one. The old vehicle will be sold at auction. The police department also went through training with new guns this week. The old guns were traded at no extra cost to the City.

The City Council members unanimously agreed to implement an IRS Section 125 Flexible Benefits Plan. This plan allows employees switching to high-deductible health care plans to set aside money pre-tax for medical costs. Eligible families could deduct up to $4,000 and for a single person up to $2,000.

City Council members will meet again Monday, July 19.
