Grosse Pointe City candidates
running unopposed in Nov. 3 election

Lifelong Grosse Pointe City resident Chris Boettcher will run uncontested for the city council spot vacated by Kris Pfaehler, who is not seeking re-election because of a job commitment out of state.

Incumbent council members Jean Weipert and Chris Walsh and Mayor Dale Scrace are also unopposed. Monday was the deadline to file a petition to run in the Nov. 3 election.

City Manager Peter Dame said Pfaehler’s job does not allow him to attend most council meetings. Pfaehler was not available for comment.

Boettcher, 45, has lived in Grosse Pointe nearly all his life. He is president of Detroit-based Airtec Corp., a family business that manufactures custom metal fabrications and is exploring producing wind turbines. He and his wife Jenny have five sons.

“Other than the student council in high school, I have no political experience,” he said. “But I want to help preserve the community I grew up in as a safe place to live, work and play.

“In light of what is happening–quick disintegration--over the border (in Detroit) on the other side of Mack and as a business owner in Detroit, I know you have to be strong as a community to protect and preserve your city,” he said.

Boettcher said he had no idea there was a vacancy on the council. “No one was super sure about Kris (leaving), but I still had “every intention of running. I figured I had a good shot at winning.”
