Bledsoe, Richner to host bipartisan
"Community Conversation" on Sept. 21

State Rep. Tim Bledsoe, D-1st District, and chairman of the University of Michigan Board of Regents Andrew Richner, R-Grosse Pointe, will host a "Community Conversation" with the Center for Michigan on September 21 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

"I encourage those interested in the future of our state to attend and lend your views," Bledsoe said. "This is an excellent opportunity to discuss the importance of working together to look towards Michigan's future. These discussions are the cornerstone of our democracy."

"As co-host of this event and a former state representative, I look forward to discusing the importance of bipartisan leadership with Rep. Bledsoe and our community," Richner said. "We face serious challenges as a state and I look forward to discussing the importance of working together toward a common goal."

Nancy Short, outreach coordinator for the Center for Michigan, will lead the conversation on the topic of the public engagement campaign "Michigan's Defining Moment." The campaign is a statewide, nonpartisan, nonprofit effort to discuss Michigan's challenges and opportunities and develop a common ground to guide the decisions of state and local leaders. The campaign's first report is a result of 180 meetings involving 1,800 diverse participants from across the state.

The event is open to all residents of the 1st District, which includes the Pointes as well as a portion of  Detroit and Harper Woods. Admission is free, although reservations are required. The AAUW Grosse Pointe and the Grosse Pointe League of Women Voters of Michigan are co-sponsors of the event.

"When the people discuss their viewpoints, leaders are better able to make the best decisions," Bledsoe said. "Sharing in a community conversation is a great way to get that dialogue started. I hope to see many people from the First House District weigh in on important issues affecting our community and our state."
