Grosse Pointe's Michigan Ice Hawks win
international youth hockey tournament

The Grosse Pointe-based 1997 Michigan Ice Hawks continued their tournament success this season winning the 50th Annual International Silver Stick Bantam AA Championship at McMorran Arena in Port Huron Sunday (Jan. 29). The Ice Hawks were the only U.S. team to walk away champions in Port Huron when they beat the Gloucester Rangers, 3-1 in the championship game. 

The round-robin tournament featured 20 North American teams from California, Connecticut, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Quebec. read more...

Bob Bashara makes brief statement
as accounts of wife's death build

The Jane Bashara homicide investigation continued with new reports leaking from police sources about Joseph Gentz, the man who is under investigation in the 56-year-old Grosse Pointe Park resident's strangulation a week ago. Meanwhile, Bob Bashara addressed reporters Wednesday afternoon, asking for prayers and support.

Bashara, accompanied by his mother Nancy and son Robert, stepped outside his home on Middlesex Road about 3 p.m. and spoke briefly. He thanked the "hundreds of people who have shown love and respect for my Jane." read more...

So this wasn't a crime of passion (manslaughter), rather a premeditated murder-for-hire.  Very, very sad.

Bashara investigation continues; CNN
puts a national spotlight on the case

Grosse Pointe Park and Detroit police are continuing to investigate the death of Jane Bashara, 56, whose body was found in Detroit last Wednesday (Jan. 25). Park Public Safety Director David Hiller said Monday that detectives are waiting on lab work, continuing to follow leads, and don't anticipate an arrest immediately. He reiterated that Bashara's husband, Bob, remains the sole "person of interest" in the investigation of his wife's strangulation.  read more...

Bob's disputed timeline,  mistress cooperating with police,  delinquent property taxes, failed polygraph test, being the sole suspect, and now Nancy Grace on his tail?  Not looking good for Big Bob.

found dead in car in Detroit

Police have identified the woman found dead in her Mercedes-Benz on Detroit's east side Jan. 25 as Jane Bashara, 56, of Grosse Pointe Park.

The body of Bashara, left, was found in an alley in the 19000 block of Annott Street, near Pinewood Avenue in the Seven Mile/Hoover area of the city, around 9 a.m.  read more...

starts year with new alliances

A new superintendent, and a new board, took their seats Monday night (Jan. 23) at the Grosse Pointe Board of Education meeting. And if anyone doubts the landscape is a different one, following the retirement of Superintendent Suzanne Klein and the election of two new board members last November, the actions at Monday's meeting were a reminder. read more...

Grosse Pointe Woods City Council hears
plans, estimates for road, sewer repairs

Grosse Point Woods City Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting Monday (Jan. 23), outlined some of the upcoming improvements to the city’s roads and sewer system.

The city is working in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and engineering consultant Scott Lockwood, from the civil engineering firm Anderson Eckstein and Westrick, Inc.

Council members were told sewer system work will be scheduled for the fall of this year and continue until the summer of 2014. read more...

Stephen Poloni officially left his position as Grosse Pointe Shores' director of public safety for a similar job with the City weeks ago, but his name remains on the door and he's been the department's representative at city council meetings.
