Experiments in Prayer: A Course for Men
Wednesdays, March 16 through April 13, 7:30-9 pm

Men bring distinctive gifts and challenges to the practice of prayer. The Rev. Andrew MacBeth , interim rector, Christ Church Grosse Pointe, offers participants a little bit of theory and a lot of practical suggestions about how prayer can work for you. Perfect attendance is not required. The topics for each week are:

March 16 – Praying With and Without Words
March 23 – Praying in Black and White
March 30 – Praying with the Breath
April 6 – Praying with Scripture
April 13 – Praying on the Computer

Praying in Color: A Lenten Prayer Workshop
Saturday, March 26, 9 am-noon

Do you have a short attention span in prayer? Do you fumble for words and squirm in your chair? Are you tired of the way you’ve been praying? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you will want to participate in this unique workshop led by Sybil MacBeth. Praying in Color invites you into an active, playful and meditative prayer practice. It is designed for young and old, new and experienced prayers, and for those who are simply curious.

A program that parallels the adult program, Praying in Color for Kids, is offered at the same time for kindergarten through fifth graders. Nursery care is provided for infants to four-year-olds. The cost for the workshop and supplies is $10. Register for the class by calling the church office.

The Passion Narratives in the Gospels
Sundays, March 13-April 10, 10:10-11 am

Lent provides an opportunity for reflection on the suffering and death of Jesus. In this series of Adult Forums at Christ Church Grosse Pointe, participants consider the last days of the life of Jesus through a study of the Passion Narratives in the Gospels. We will carefully evaluate what was each evangelist’s emphasis, what his audience was expected to learn and what our own reaction might be.

Dr. Denise Crenshaw, Christ Church parishioner, introduces the series, exploring the different perspectives of the Gospel writers. Mark Whitters, a 25-year member of the Servants of the Word, an ecumenical brotherhood of Christian men that works among the youth of urban Detroit, teaches Sessions 1, 2 and 4. The Rev. Dr. Joe Healey, priest associate at Christ Church, teaches Session 3. Topics will include:

March 13 – An Introduction: Exploring the different perspectives of the Gospel writers
March 20 – The Passion Narrative According to Mark (Mark 14-15)
March 27 – Passion Narrative According to Matthew (Matthew 26-27)
April 3 – The Passion Narrative According to John (John 17-19)
April 10 – The Passion Narrative According to Luke (Luke 22-23)
