Christ Church Antiques Show opens;
event is a Grosse Pointe tradition

The Christ Church Antiques Show kicks off its second quarter-century tonight with a preview party for the show’s supporters.

Now in its 26th year, the show has grown into one of the Midwest’s most prestigious, with more than 30 dealers showing art, furniture and other objects from a wide range of periods and styles.

This year’s featured guest is Barry Dixon, who will lecture Friday (June 4) at 10:30 a.m. He’ll sign copies of his book, “Barry Dixon Interiors,” which will be available for sale.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday's feature is the appraisal event with Caroline Ashleigh of PBS’ “Antiques Roadshow,” along with Manya Basile and Stephen J. Till, running from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free docent-led tour of the historic church highlights the stained and leaded glass windows begins at 1 p.m., with an emphasis on the restoration being performed by Rohlfe Studio of Mount Vernon, New York.

The show benefits the music and outreach department at Christ Church in Grosse Pointe.

“Pursuing these interesting pieces from such a broad range of price points and periods is quite literally a step back in time. Antiques tell a story of our collective past,” said Cyndee Harrison, co-chair of the 26th Annual Christ Church Antique Show.

A three-day ticket to the show is $10. Dixon’s lecture plus three-day admission is $25.

“Ours is a fully-vetted and professionally managed show (and) the dealers are incredibly knowledgeable about their offerings, so it’s a great cultural and educational event,” said Harrison.

A courtesy shuttle will be available on Friday and Saturday to chauffer guests to and from the church and local restaurants. More information is available at the show’s website
