Babies on board

Robin nests are a common sight this time of year, and given the birds' willingness to build them under porch overhangs, on windowsills and in other places close to human activity, not so hard to catch with a camera. Maybe it's the mellow mood of this hard-won spring, or maybe we're just suckers for babies, but even in this naked, ugly stage, we find the little guys charming.

Farther north we saw this brand-new duck family on Broadstone Road in the Woods:

They were marching east, and if the family was headed for water, they had a long way to go and Mack Avenue to cross before they found any. Unless they were willing to settle for a swimming pool, in which case the trip would be much shorter. 

Finally, something we've always wanted to do with a photo like this: L-R, Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, Quack and Mrs. Duck. Make way!
