Grosse Pointe Art Center plans
photography show, black-tie auction

The Grosse Pointe Art Center has a number of activities scheduled for October. They include:

"Children of Hope," an exhibit of photos taken in August by 13 children from the Rosa Parks Youth Program at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. They were all provided with brand new digital cameras to use, thanks to a grant from Target Corp., and several local donors. During that week, they took over 4,000 pictures.

Three of each child’s work will be presented in conjunction with the "Photos, Prints and Pottery Show," opening Oct. 8 and running through Nov. 6. This show, juried by Detroit photographer Robert Stewart, will have an opening-night reception from 6:30-9 p.m. The public is invited.

Finally, "One Night Stand," an auction to benefit the center will be held at the Crescent Sail Club Oct. 23. Nudes, donated by member artists, will be the main event at the black-tie affair. The evening will include food from area restaurants and live music. Art offered for auction includes drawings, oil paintings, pottery and photography. Tickets are $75. Space is limited, so early reservations are suggested.
