Grosse Pointe Theatre offers
fall slate of acting, tech classes

Grosse Pointe Theatre is offering classes this fall for adults interested in acting, playwriting and other technical aspects of the theater. Interested parties are invited to a “Meet and Greet” social at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Grosse Pointe Theatre’s rehearsal facility, 315 Fisher Rd. The event will feature information on all classes offered in the coming year, starting at 7:30 p.m. Registrations will be taken throughout the evening. Call Grosse Pointe Theatre at 313-881-4004 for information.

Classes include: Acting, Playwriting, Dance, Costume Design, Scenery Construction, Makeup and many others. Early registration for a specific class is urged as enrollment is limited.

Two acting classes begin on Oct. 13: Acting for the Stage I (6:45-8:15) and Acting for the Stage II (8:30-10:00). Each class runs for six sessions plus an hour-long individual DVD viewing session with the instructor. The fee for each class is $100 or $75 for Grosse Pointe Theatre members. The $30 membership in Grosse Pointe Theatre is open to anyone 18 and over. The two acting classes will be taught by veteran teacher and professional actor Harry Burkey, left.

Acting for the Stage I addresses all aspects of acting for those who thought they could not act, those who need a brush-up course or those who simply wish to try. With the use of video feedback, the course demonstrates that everyone is capable of performing for an audience.

Acting for the Stage II uses scene analysis to develop a full character. Each student is paired with another student. The course culminates in a performance showcase before a select audience. Video feedback will also be used with this course. Students should have taken Acting I or its equivalent.
