Sweep locks down Grosse Pointe North,
turns up marijuana in car, none in school

After a surprise drug sweep last year at Grosse Pointe South High School, Wednesday (Nov. 10) was North's turn. Police arrived at the school at 9 a.m., locked students in their classrooms and swept the school, parking lots, vehicles and lockers for contraband, using approximately 15 drug-sniffing dogs from various police agencies.

No drugs were found in the school, a departmental press release stated, although one student car parked on Morningside Drive was found to contain marijuana and a scale. The sweep took about an hour. read more...


South senior will row in Boston

Grosse Pointe South senior Kelsey Flynn, second from left above, signed a national letter of intent to row at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts next year. The Northeastern Huskies finished 9-4 in 2009, 6th in the Eastern Sprints and were the Colonial Athletic Association Champions.

Three seniors net Comcast scholarships

Three high school seniors from the Grosse Pointes have won $1,000 scholarships from the Comcast Foundation's "Leaders and Achievers" program. The scholarships go to college-bound seniors who have demonstrated leadership skills, academic achievement and a commitment to community service. 

The three were among 122 winners invited to a ceremony June 3 in Lansing.
