Richard Elementary School at a glance

Pére Gabriel Richard Elementary School, with a name that honors the area's French heritage, opened in 1930. Father Richard (1767-1832) had a strong passion for education. He was eager to build an educational institution once he moved to Detroit in 1798. Richard was one of the original founders of the University of Michigan.

Richard READS, in its first year, gets
students turning nearly a million pages

Students at Richard Elementary School reaped the rewards of reading more than 979,534 pages combined in a parent-organized program called “Richard READS.” Of the school's 410 students, 265 participated and won a carnival last week at the school. read more...
