Monteith Elementary School at a glance

Monteith Elementary School opened on September 6, 1951 to relieve the crowded conditions in the Grosse Pointe Woods/Farms area. There are 551 students currently attending the school at 1275 Cook Rd. in the Woods.

Monteith serves kindergarten through fifth grade, but at one point sixth-graders also attended the school. In 1958, the sixth-grade class was sent to Ferry Elementary due to overcrowding. In 2008, parent and artist Erin Maday cooperated with the parent teacher organization to create Monteith’s “Wild about Learning” lobby mural. read more...
