What I did on my summer vacation

We caught Richard Elementary Principal Mary MacDonald-Barrett relaxing at an undisclosed Up North location. Look out, kids, Mrs. Barrett appears to be preparing for the Fall!

Carolyn Ugval, a member of the Grosse Pointe Camera Club, called herself a novice photographer when she sent us her photos from the 4th of July fireworks display at the Farms Pier. We think the grandmother is selling herself short and are pleased to share her spectacular photo.

Her new BFF

Who is that with Martha Stewart? Why, it's Grosse Pointe's (retired) Estate Sale Queen, Susan Hartz.

Supportive friends

Friends of Kathy Burgess of Grosse Pointe Farms showed their support as she reached a milestone birthday on May 31 — hanging 50 bras around her home on Elm Court.

Take that, Mr. Wardie!

You don't get too many action shots covering school news, at least once you leave the sporting fields. So while photographer Bill Rapai acknowledges his picture is "not the best," we're running it out of appreciation for its news-as-it-happens quality. This was taken at the Defer Elementary School ice-cream social Thursday night (May 28), where the biggest attraction was the dunk tank. Rapai captured Principal Ron Wardie en route to a soaking.

Growing up fast

Remember the baby robins from earlier this month? See Babies on board Margie Reins Smith caught a shot of the last fledgling as it prepared to leave the nest for good. One landed under some bushes on his first flight, but mother kept after him with food and encouragement until he was successfully launched. Kids—they grow up so fast.
