Pianist David Syme to perform
free concert at Grosse Pointe Memorial

Nationally recognized pianist David Syme will perform a free concert in Grosse Pointe on Wednesday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms.

Syme has performed in noted venues across the country, including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. He has performed with the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia and the Czech National Symphony.

Grosse Pointe Historical Society presents
plaques to three 'significant' structures

The Grosse Pointe Historical Society is adding three homes to its list of historically significant structures. The Pointes of History Celebration will officially induct the new additions into the collection by awarding each one with a bronze plaque at a celebration 7 p.m. Tuesday (May 8) at the War Memorial.

Each homeowner will receive a bronze plaque intended to be displayed and visible from the street. Each designated structure has been evaluated based on its significance in Grosse Pointe history, architecture and the amount of historical information available on them. read more...

closes Grosse Pointe Theatre season

Grosse Pointe Theatre will finish its season with 10 performances of the award-winning musical "Hairspray" on May 6, 9-13 and 17-20 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Fries Auditorium. The shows start at 8 p.m., except for Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $24 and parking is free.

Set in early-'60s Baltimore, "Hairspray" details the efforts of teenager Tracy Turnblad to get on the popular after-school dance show "The Corny Collins Show,"  and then to integrate it.   read more...
