'Heart, Hands and Voices' camp
planned for St. Paul Lutheran

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Farms is hosting a worship and music camp for children of all faiths and backgrounds from grades 2-7. Hearts, Hands & Voices is an opportunity for young people to come together in a safe and welcoming environment to grow spiritually and musically.

The camp will run August 15-18, 2011 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the church, 375 Lothrop Rd. Registration is limited to 75. More information and registration forms can be found online.

Grosse Pointe Unitarian now signals
that it welcomes without sexual bias

The Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church voted Sunday (March 6) to be recognized as a Welcoming Congregation, a designation that defines the church as being openly welcoming to all people regardless of their sexual orientation.

‘moral vision’ for health care reform

As the new health care reform law is implemented, interfaith health advocates remain concerned about the need to achieve a moral vision for its implementation, not just a legislative compromise. To that end, the Interfaith Health & Hope Coalition will host a prayer luncheon for faith leaders and health ministers called “Achieving a Moral Vision for Health Care” on Thursday (June 10) from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Christ Church Antiques Show opens;
event is a Grosse Pointe tradition

The Christ Church Antiques Show kicks off its second quarter-century tonight with a preview party for the show’s supporters.

Now in its 26th year, the show has grown into one of the Midwest’s most prestigious, with more than 30 dealers showing art, furniture and other objects from a wide range of periods and styles.

This year’s featured guest is Barry Dixon, who will lecture Friday (June 4) at 10:30 a.m. He’ll sign copies of his book, “Barry Dixon Interiors,” which will be available for sale.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday's feature is the appraisal event with Caroline Ashleigh of PBS’ “Antiques Roadshow,” along with Manya Basile and Stephen J. Till, running from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free docent-led tour of the historic church highlights the stained and leaded glass windows begins at 1 p.m., with an emphasis on the restoration being performed by Rohlfe Studio of Mount Vernon, New York.

Grosse Pointe Memorial Church
sets summer service schedule

Grosse Pointe Memorial Church will begin its summer worship schedule June 6 with lakeside services on Sunday mornings at 8:30. The casual outdoor service will include music and special time for families. A traditional service will take place on Sundays at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. The church community invites new members to join the church — which members call "a light by the lakeshore" — at 16 Lake Shore Road in the Farms.
