Help build a child's academic skills! Mercy Education Project in southwest Detroit needs volunteers to assist girls in grade 1 - 10 whose reading and/or math skills are below grade level. A weekly, late September to late May, commitment is requested for one-on-one tutoring, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, 4:15 - 5:45 and/or 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Tutors work with the same girl(s) throughout the year; occasional absences can be accommodated. Tutoring is on-site at our location, (1450 Howard Street, 48216) and is curriculum based - training and materials are provided. Stipends may be available for individuals able to commit to two or more days per week throughout the school year.
Mercy Education Project, www.mercyed.net, was founded in 1992 to provide academic services, life skills education and selected career development to help girls and women achieve educational success and eventual self-sufficiency. Serving a culturally diverse population of more than 100 girls and 150 women each year, Mercy Education Project is a doorway out of the cycles of poverty and educational failure.
